About Us
Ella's journey into soul music began in 2010 when she started collecting and playing records. It was then that she started a monthly vinyl night, "Falmouth Got Soul" in a basement bar in Cornwall, playing a mixture of Northern Soul, Funk, and Motown classics with a friend.
In 2014, Ella's exploration of art and music took her to San Francisco. Whilst in the Bay Area she experienced the sounds of loft-style parties and DJs such as DJ Harvey, playing a real range of genres across 8 hour-long sets. Here she discovered a love for Boogie and Italo Disco, as well as the hi-energy disco records by Bohannon, Tom Moulton and more.
Whilst living and working in Vietnam between 2015-2018, Ella also held a weekly residency at Anan Rooftop bar in Saigon. This experience allowed Ella to connect with different audiences and share her passion for music across the globe.
Since being back in London, her collection has expanded to include records from the West African diaspora, from Afro-Funk to Nigerian Soul. This continuing search for musical treasures ensures that Tamla Soul’s playlist is always evolving, whilst also celebrating the timeless classics that resonate with all generations.
